Aussie Embassy in Vienna

Hello, I'm Nat. I'm a Slovenian citizen. My partner who is Australian and I have lodged a subclass 300 visa application at the end of June. I got a letter from my case officer a couple of days later, saying they got the application and they will review it. It said in the letter it will take a month to make an initial assessment. We haven't heard from them since then and it's been over six weeks. Is that a normal thing, or should I send them an email, just to check what is going on? How long does it usually take for a visa application to be processed in Vienna? Does anyone have any experience with that embassy?
I know the processing time is 4 to 6 months, but I would still like to know if there are any documents missing, so we can provide them ( although I think our application was well done, the paperwork was 2 kilos heavy )
And one more question: in the letter from our case officer it said that processing time for countries that are not an a ETA list can take up to 10 months. Slovenia is not on that list, but I find it hard to believe that a country from the European union would be considered as a high risk country).

Thank you very much....
Greetings from Europe
Nat

Hello nat!

Well as you can see on this board, some people manage to get their Visa's within two/two and a half months (depending on whether they have their medicals and police clearances completed). I have been told by the U.S embassy that 4-6 months is an average so it could take more or less time. It all depends on your case.

Since it has been six weeks-call them up and see whats going on. I saw on this board that one guy had a problem with a missng document or something and the CO hadn't contacted him. You have waited the appropriate amount of time, so go ahead and call.

As for whether or not you are considered high risk, i have no idea. I would ask your CO if you/slovenian citizens are considered high or low risk--that way, if they tell you that yes you are considered high risk (for whatever reason, dont see why though) i would assume that that will mean it will take longer to approve.

good luck!

Nat,
As elkitten has indicated, the processing time can vary and quickest to date was being invited in for an interview and application granted on the spot - not sure if that was a newbie on the job keen to exercise new found authority or what! but I've heard of people going in for interviews before and being told yes it'll be approved.
- have a read of the sticky thread #1 on time lines.

Re the 10 months, it could be that the Vienna CO is just quoting standard immigration department stuff and if your application is well completed, all in order and you have already or get quickly enough done the health and character checks, I'd suspect you could dodge this winter over there.

I'd love a white Xmas myself though.

Hello Nat,

I've also applied for the same type of visa at end of June in Vienna, so I'm wondering how it goes from now. I'm from Bosnia and my fiance is Australian. I've got the same letter after a week and after that haven't heard from them.
My fiance called today to ask if everything is ok , is there any papers missing etc..our case officer said that my visa is still waiting on a security check from Australia, so they can't tell me anything till then..i have no idea if that's the usual procedure and how long will we wait for those checks..
I would really appreciate if you share informations after calling the embassy .

By the way, they asked me to do the medical checks even before I applied for the visa, so I've done it a week prior sending my application to Vienna.

Good luck with your visa , hope to hear from you soon .

Hello, Sell,
i sent an email to the embassy to find out what is going on. I got an answer withinn couple of days, saying the only document missing is my Free to Marry certificate ( when I asked people in our registry office for that document, they said I don't need it, because the information that I'm single is written on my birth certificate, grrrrr..). So I have to send them that document and let them know when I can attend the personal interview... That's it for now... How about you, any news? Which city in Australia are you migrating to? My partner lives in Perth... Hope to hear from you soon...
Nat

Hello Nat,
nice to hear from you ..well about that Free to marry certificate, I had it on my list and got it without questions from the registry .We haven't called the embassy since my last note , but i'm planning to send an email next week..It's a bit weird that they haven't told us last time if there's some document missing..i'm hoping there isn't but i'll ask this time.
They also told me they'll be coming for interview appointments in October so i'll be notified of that 2 weeks earlier. That's it for now..i'll write if there's some news
Is there anything else they told you about the process phases? What about your medical, have you done it yet?
My fiancee lives in Townsville so i'll be moving there hopefully .
Hope to hear from you too

Hey, Sell,
I had my personal interview in Vienna yesterday. It went well, it lasted for about 45 minutes. My CO just asked standard questions regards to my and my partner's life, our plans etc... It was just a normal conversation... I left my passport there, so when my visa is granted, they're gonna send it back to me... It could be done yesterday, but because we set out wedding date to July 10, we have to consider the 9 months to marry period. So they will grant my visa in November, i'll be moving to Australia in January...
How about you, anything new? Hope your interview goes well...
Nat

Hi Nat,
I'm glad everything went well for you wish it'll be the same for me too..I asked my CO about the interview date and got an answer it's suppose to happen first week of November, but will get notice of an exact date.I'm a bit worried about it , but kinda relieved after you said it was just a normal conversation. What else did you have to bring except he passport ?
