Subclass 676 details

Hi there,

I actually have a Subclass 676 Tourist visa and would want to ask 3 questions in order to make no mistake at all. I sent an email to the immigration service but they don't reply. Thank you by advance if you can help

Question 1:
I quote:
"The Subclass 676 Tourist visa allows the visa holder to travel to and enter Australia on more than 1 occasion until 22 June 2010. The visa holder is permitted to remain in Australia, after each entry, for a period of 3 Months."
According that sentence, is there any minimum days staying outside of Australia between each period? For example, I stay 3 months then I travel to France for 1 week. Can I come back to Australia right after?

Question 2:
"Tourist visa (subclass 676) (Further stay) $250"
If I ask extension of the visa and for any reason this extension is refused, do I still have to pay the $250 fees?

Question 3:
If I ask for an extension of my visa and for any reason this extension is refused. Do I keep my previous subclass 676 visa rights "to travel and enter on more than 1 occasion until June 2010"?

Kindest regards to Autralia forum members!

Re your Q1. and quote, have they actually sent you a letter re the visa with that quote in it?

For is so, it is a bit strange as though a 676 visa can be granted for varying periods and either single or multiple entries - Tourist Visa (Subclass 676) the immi site does say that duration and number of entries will be in accordance with what has been applied for.

The visa [ETA] with 12 month validity and allowing a stay of three months at a time is the 976 - ETA (Visitor) (Subclass 976)

So you really need to be certain which visa you have.
With the 976 ETA, yes in theory you can stay 3 months, leave for a week and re-enter, but do bear in mind that you could be quizzed on reasons for doing so when re-entering and be asked to show proof of funds to support yourself, immigration having the right at any time to refuse admittance of people even if they hold a visa.

Q2. With any visa application, if for whatever reason an application is refused, application fees are usually forfeited.

Q3. Any existing visa that someone holds will only cease to be applicable if another visa is granted, so yes, if you apply for another visa to extend a stay and the application is unsuccessful, then it would be normal for your existing visa to run its course.

Before you do consider applying for another visa, there is sometimes applied to a visa a ' no further stay' condition and that would stop any further application being successful.

Thank you Wanderer,

About Q1, yes I quote their email with eVisa 676 inside it.
Quote:
"The Subclass 676 Tourist visa allows the visa holder to travel to and enter Australia on more than 1 occasion until 22 June 2010. The visa holder is permitted to remain in Australia, after each entry, for a period of 3 Months."
And they answered me:
Quote:
"The Department makes no recommendation as to where
your destination should be, nor is there a stipulation of a minimum time
that you must spend away from Australia before your visa will permit you to
re-enter."
So if there is any difference, for example, if I leave Australia 1 day or 1 week before coming back?

If would be quizzed when re-entering and be asked to show proof of funds to support yourself, what is the minimum average I have to show on my bank account?

Thanks a lot for all,

Greg

Still somewhat puzzling there Greg as a 676 visa has a set period, be it 3 months, 6 months or 12 months and the June 2010 date may well be just the last date that you can enter the country.

Bit hard to fit a visa inside an email but I'll take it you refer to the initial email advice and other than " until 22 June 2010. " did they say for what period of time the visa was valid for, ie the 3, 6, or 12 months?

" if I leave Australia 1 day or 1 week before coming back? " seems to be what they're saying.

Can't say as I've ever delved into the detail for what constitutes an ammount to support oneself but have a vague recollection of having read of a figure being quoted sometime and it'll obviously vary on ones circumstances to the extent that if you have somewhere organised to stay, free of subsidised accommodation with friends etc., there is obviously less needed but if no fixed plan and your intent is just to wander around the countryside, that's when they'll expect you to have substantial funds, and they'll be aware that even backpacker hostels can be ~$200/w, food etc. ~$150 and then there's entertainment and transport, so it can add up!

You turn up with only $500 - $1000 to your name and it could be like Oh yeah!
