Working overseas on a 820 visa

Hello,

Question on working overseas while waiting for 820 approval, and also while on 820 visa.
Me and my boyfriend are lodging application in March 2018 when our 12 months of living together is done. We got offered an opportunity to work in France for the French summer from June 2018 - October 2018. I can easily get a visa between Canada and France, but wondering if that would hinder my application, or if there are rules about me being out of country. We will be together working and we will be coming back after, just a little 6 months work thing. Any insight on that?
Also, once application is lodged, how long usually does it take for the 820 visa to be granted?

Thanks in advance.

You will need a BVB for that period first of all. It certainly is possible, but DIBP may wonder why you didn’t apply for a sc. 309 visa instead. The idea with the sc. 820 is that you are residing in Australia.

As CCMS has said, the 820 is an onshore visa. I would imagine they would expect you to be living in Australia during the time.

Also, it may seem minor and not a big deal, but try and refrain from using the term boyfriend/girlfriend when referring to partner visa applications. This can have pretty significant issues for applications. Always refer to your partner as either partner, spouse, wife, husband etc

thank you for your replies.

The reason we are planning on the 820, is when we lodge it come March 1 2018, we will be living in Australia still. The overseas job is not set in stone yet, as we are still working out the logistics, (which this issue is one of). So if we apply in March, we will be in Australia, with the possibility of leaving for 4-6 months come June, but not permanently. Just for a few months. Were you recommending doing the offshore visa because there could be a chance we would be in France when it approved? If you could help me clarify this that would be very helpful. Also, how long does it usually take for the 820 to be granted and active from time of lodgement. thanks in advance!!
