Evisitor visa question

Hello all,

So I decided I was going to visit my partner this summer and I was wondering about the "unlimited entries" for an ETA. Can I be there for three months, travel to new Zealand on a mini vacation and then go for another three months in Australia? Will I be given the third degree when I return? I know it says multiple entries within a year long period, but should I stay out of Australia for a certain period of time?
