Initial Entry for 189 or 190

Hi all,

Is there a set period of time to enter Australia once your visa is granted or does it vary from person to person? What is the average?

Thank you.

Typically the must-enter-by date is set to be within 6 months of the visa grant date, although this can vary.

Best,

Mark Northam

Hi, you have a year from the date of your medical or police check whichever is sooner to enter Australia to validate your visa. You can return to Uk following this though. Hope that's of some help! But some experts on here will give you more info!

Thanks for this.

Also, does it matter when you take the IELTS test? I don't want to take it now if I'll have to take it again nearer the time (I've got another 12 months before I can apply)

Kind regards.

Hi Pomwantingtomove -

Your IELTS test is good for skilled migration for a period of 3 years from the test date, however you must have taken your test at the time you're invited to apply for the visa - the invitation comes without warning once you lodge your EOI and are chosen.

Hope this helps -

Best,

Mark Northam

I didn't realise that Mark, I am applying for 190 WA, thought the date to validate was 12 months from medical / police checks. Am I mistaken?

Thanks Mark,

Could you tell me how I go about booking it? Also, am I taking it for granted that as a person born and bred in the UK that I will get top scores? I'm not sure what the test entails and can't find much info.

Kind regards,

Please don't take it for granted you will pass as an English speaker! I was ok, but many people on this forum will tell you a different story! The Ielts isn't as easy as it may seem!

Good luck

Hi Geordiegirl68,

Thanks for the advice! Are there any sites I can look at to get a bit more info on the test, cost, where I can take it etc...

Hi again, if you go takeielts.britishcouncil.org it will show you test centres and dates etc. You also need to establish whether you have to sit the academic or general test! Once you register to take a test, you get 30 hours free study from the British council. You will also find loads of info and advise on this forum, and learn about people's experience of the ielts, test!

All the best.
