Australian Citizenship 2018

Hi All,

Does anyone know what is happening to the citizenship laws? I recently saw a post on a facebook group stating immi had once again paused citizenship applications, is there any truth to this? Currently do the old laws still apply?

My wife has returned from working overseas and currently does not meet the twelve month on PR requirement as yet. I also see that there has been an amendment to the bill.

No they have not paused the citizenship applications. Pauline Hanson has put forward her changes which is 8 years PR which the greens are fighting. The immigration website says new changes will be from 1 July 2018 but we are yet to see a new bill presented.

Just remember that any time your wife spends overseas may affect her citizenship eligibility.
