How to extend my 600 tourist visa in Australia

I recently applied for my PMV Visa this month and had submitted the police and med checks required.
My question is :
I still have a valid 600 tourist visa( 1 year/ 3 mos multiple entry . Not restricted for no further stay. ) last entry to Oz is 29 Aug. Do i have to apply for extension online or can I apply to their office.
Do I need to wait till until the last few days before the visa expires or can i apply for extension right away?

Thanks

With this current visa 600 visa:
Sept to Nov 2017- 32 days
Dec 2017 to Jan 2018 - 16 days
Feb 2018- 5 days
March 2018 - 10 days

I had 2 previous 600 visas before as well.
Now I'm waiting for my PMV visa, but im planning that since i still have my 600 visa valid, might as well use it . My plan is to be in Oz in 25 Aug and just use it for 3 months ( till Nov) and If still no result for the PMV i would like to extend the visa.
Would thia be ok? And where to extend in Oz?
Thanks a lot.

a Basic yes that seems ok to apply again - but approved is never known!

I believe you can apply for an "extension" it is actually a new Visitor Visa and onshore and online. I think it has a $700 extra fee for the onshore application (or that might be after a second application - but it will cost more).
