Smile Case officer assigned for partner visa 801/820 after 18 months!!

Hi guys,

I thought I'd briefly share my story for all of you who feel like you have been waiting for a long time, completely in the dark about the progress of your application. I know how you feel! For the past 18 months, I hadn't heard a word from immigration; apart from when I called them every month for the past 6 months to ask what was going on. The answer was always the same: "no news yet, just keep waiting patiently". I'm usually ok at waiting for things but that has to be the most infuriating thing you can be told!!

Anyway, I applied in Sydney back in March 2012 with plenty of time left on my student visa, so I didn't have to worry about not being allowed to leave the country, the bridging visa etc. But last week I was contacted by a case officer in Melbourne looking for updated info to show that my partner and I are still together (fair enough, alot can happen in 18 months). I asked her how come I was being contacted from Melbourne and she said that my file had been sent there so that they can "meet their service standards"... HA! I won't say any more about the service standards that I'm sure alot of us waiters are feeling.

So yes, with renewed hope and less paranoia, I'm sending them a stack of evidence today and will keep my fingers crossed for a speedy process from here on out. To everyone else, keep the chins up, there's always those success stories of quick processing that I'm always so jealous of when I read them

Hi Holly Polly

It sounds like Melbourne office can speed up the process. Honestly I lodged my form in Melbourne office in late Sept last year and just told an CO will be assigned in coming months.....OMG !!

Oh, I'm about to apply next month and I'm so scared of those stories now
It's seems that it has no standard at all... It's all about being lucky or not!

Lucky you, Hollypolly, that they even know about "service standards" in Melbourne. In Vienna office service standards are Sci-Fi.
