Hi there, My husband is an eligible NZ citizen has been sposoring me on this visa since 2008. I am now coming up for renewal again and from what I can see, an eligible NZ can no longer be a sponsor on this visa. Does rule apply to renewing the visa or just a first application? TIA

If he is an eligible NZ citizen, he should sponsor you for a partner visa the same as Australian. citizens and permanent residents have to do. It is expensive, but you are better off as a permanent resident in the long run.

Finances are the issue at at the moment although it is in the pipeline, for now i wanted to renew my 461 as i previously have done. I have only recently learnt of the 2017 changes. I just wanted to know if the changes affect people already on the visa prior to the changes.

I'd say it would , but I'd have to check the actual legislation rather than the Department website. I'll have a look tomorrow.

I think it is pretty clear-cut:

(2) An applicant meets the requirements of this subclause if the applicant is a member of the family unit of:
(a) a person, other than an eligible New Zealand citizen, who is in Australia as the holder of a Subclass 444 (Special Category) visa;

NZ citizens who are eligible New Zealand citizens can sponsor family unit members under the appropriate family stream residence/migrant visa category.

Could I ask a question as to whether there is a risk of going on a bridging visa with no rights to work whilst waiting for the 461 visa to be renewed? I have 8 months left on it but worry that given current delays it can take longer than this and i will end up on a bridging visa with no rights to work whilst needing to support two young children as their primary care giver.
