Bringing Nephew to Australia on a Student Visa

Hi Everyone!

This is my first time posting on this website because I'm completely lost and need help.

My about-to-be 12 year old nephew (who lives in Canada) is currently living in conditions that no 12 year old child should have to live in, and I am trying to bring him over to Australia. Unfortunately because I only have temporary residence (820 visa) and I am currently waiting for my permanent residence decision, I am unable to sponsor him.

I spoke with someone over the phone at the department of immigration and they mentioned to me that in order to come out on student visa he would have to be accepted by and study at a registered school. We don't live remotely close to any schools registered under that specific student visa and moving away from where we live at the moment is not possible for my spouse and I.

I'm coming to this forum to ask if anyone has been in this particular situation and if anyone knows of anything I can do to weave around the registered school obstacle.

Any input would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

To be able to apply for a student visa, the applicant must be enrolled in a CRICOS course. I am not aware of any ways around this, as it is integral to the whole system.

The Australian Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS)

What is your location/ postcode ?

Also, if the child's personal circumstances at home are so bad, it will be hard to make the case that he will be in Australia temporarily and has incentive to return home.

Moreover, from an educational/academic point of view, why would a Canadian student want to go to high school in Australia?

I don't like your chances with this one.
