Smile partner visa 820, stage 1

Hey forum friends,

I have some questions piling up as I advance through stage 1 of the application (partner visa 820). If there's anyone who has any insight and the time to answer that would be greatly appreciated!

1. Question 11/27: ''Does the applicant have any members of their family unit not travelling to Australian who are not citizens or Australian permanent resident?''
I am unsure of the meaning of this question. Does the question refer to people that would be dependant of me, like children. Are they asking if I am leaving any dependants back home?

2. Can the date the applicant and sponsor committed to a shared life together at the exclusion of all others be the same date as when the relationship began?

3. On page 18/27, while entering the relationship details for each of the 5 sections, in which section should I include that we have entered a registered domestic relationship? Would it be in Nature of commitment or Social aspects?

4. At question 19/27 they ask me to fill in the details of two supporting witnesses. Can this be any of the people who will be filing statutory declarations? It doesn't specify if they want one family member and one friend or if i can just enter two family members vice-versa.

Thanks for your time! Looking forward to hearing any and all advice

Members of the family unit

For visa purposes, you are a member of the main applicant's family unit if you are:
  • the main applicant's spouse or de facto partner
  • the main applicant's child, or their partner's child, who is not engaged, married or in a de facto relationship and is:
    • aged under 18 years, or
    • aged 18 to 23 years and dependent on the main applicant or the main applicant's partner, or
    • aged 23 years or older and dependent on the main applicant or the main applicant's partner due to a partial or total physical or mental disability
  • the dependent child of the child above

There are generally no restrictions on this portion, as long as the witnesses know of you and your partner's relationship situation.

How well do they know you? Can they provide stories or details about you two if asked?
