Post compressed files cannot be accepted

My name is Chang. This is my first post on this forum.

I submitted my 801/820 application last week and am now working on gathering documents. I've noticed a line "Compressed files and encrypted pdf files cannot be accepted" in the Attach documents webpage under Department of home affairs. The term compress is a bit confusing. Is it safe to assume this means you are not allowed to zip a file to reduce its size but you are allowed to reduce the file size using online tool or desktop software, which you can find "compress" in their description (e.g. Compress PDF)? The point is that an acceptable file extension, say .pdf, should be maintained after the file size is reduced.

I've just scanned my form 80 (18 pages) at 300 dpi. The file size is 14Mb. It's not possible to upload that file without reducing its size under 5Mb.

I have used online compress tools to compress some of my larger files. They are referring to no .zip files. As long as your file is pdf, it's ok to use a compression tool. However, make sure that once you've compressed it, that it's still legible.

Form 80 - Google Chrome

If you search this forum with the words "Google Chrome" you will find clear instructions on how to save your Form 80 without encryption.

Open your saved Form 80 using Google Chrome - select the Adobe in the print function then save again. The Form 80 will now not be encrypted. Print the signature page - sign and then insert it into the document using Adobe Pro or similar program. Delete the non signed original signature page. You are now good to upload the Form 80 to your Immi account.

Adobe Pro or similar will compress files but if the scanned file is 14 MB the compression will not reduce to 5MB or less.

Hope this assists
