Exclamation Getting citizenship with mental illness?

Hello everyone,

From July this year I can apply for citizenship but I am nervous that it will be rejected because of my mental illness. I had postnatale depression and anxiety after the birth of our child and I sought help with an organisation. It got better, however, depression and anxiety returned on and off. Despite trying counselling and meditation techniques it kept returning. I started to take antidepressants three months ago and it's working wonders. I'm seeing a community psychiatrist and once 6 months are over, we are going to review if I should continue or if I can stop. Even if I continue, the goal will be to come off it eventually.

I'm really worried that citizenship will be rejected because of this. Has anyone been in a similar situation or knows how immigration will be viewing my case?

Any help will be appreciated.

There are no health criteria attached to an application for Australian citizenship.

So they don't ask on the last or second last page if someone has a mental illness like for PR or the partner visa?

Medical issues are no longer relevant as you have PR.

This is the only question about mental issues:

Is the applicant permanently physically or mentally incapacitated and is not capable of understanding the nature of the application?

There are no medical questions in the application form. There is just a consent section for National Police Checks.

Have a look at the paper application form:
