100 Grant While Overseas?

I know this has been asked a few (hundred) times, and I did have a look about to see what I could find, but my question is in relation to the 100 portion of the 309/100.

My wife and I have been living in Australia for nearly a year now, but there is a chance we may have an opportunity back home in Canada. Before we look more into it, we want to make sure that we didn't waste thousands of dollars on my visa, so my question is - While on the 309, can my wife and I move back to Canada, submit documents for the 100 visa (February 2020), have it granted while living and working over there and then come back when the 100 is granted?

Again, apologies for the same question 100 different times. Appreciate the help though.

Yep. Personally I would be sure to include plans of intent to live in Australia when you submit the stage 2 docs though.

Hey Sky, thanks for that.

I think that would be the plan, to detail a plan of living out our days here, especially before the 5 year travel facility runs out. The plan was always citizenship, but that's still what, a good 4 years away?

Further if you plan on living overseas. Don't forget there's a residence time in Australia requirement to be eligible for citizenship. At the moment, your time on any valid visa counts towards meeting the four years with the last year needing to be as PR.

If we move back to Canada we would keep our Australian bank accounts, continue to contribute to our super while in Canada etc. We would find a way to have long lasting and meaningful ties to the country. We love it here, but the opportunity may be to good to pass up. That said, a year or two after the 100 is granted we would possibly move back, when the kids are a little older and can choose to come with us on their own.

We are in between a rock and a hard place. Though, I should not complain, we are spoiled for choice in terms of countries to live in, not many are.

You got that right, Nick. We are lucky folks, that's for sure. Just didn't think we would have to go through this process again this soon. Haha.

You all would be shocked at how much PR is for a spouse in Canada...
