Renew subclass 461 (NZ Family) from overseas after expiry

I'm a NZ citizen and my wife had a subclass 461. We are currently overseas to support her family. Unfortunately her visa is now expired, so I'm just wondering if for the renewal process we have to do everything from scratch or can still tick the box "Do you currently hold a New Zealand Citizen Family Relationship (subclass 461) visa?"

My assumption is just that a renewal should be more straightforward than a first time application.

Either way, I don't think there'd be a big issue with getting it granted again, but if it can be less hassle that'd be nice.

If anyone was in this situation before I'd be interested to hear about it. Thank you.

If her visa has expired, then she can no longer tick a box that says she currently holds one. My assumption is that this would have been a much simpler process if she'd applied for the renewal before her previous visa expired. I don't know the renewal process, but hopefully someone will come along who can answer what's required.

My understanding, as someone on a 461 visa, is you basically have to apply from scratch every time and do those long life history forms all over again. But I haven't done my first renewal, just going off what I've read.
