If you're not using an agent, for just necessary application cost, partner visa cost itself it $7.7k, medicals $300-400, police check varies.
Partner visa cost is ridiculously high. It appears to be a highway robbery. I'm not sure how the Australian government could justify imposing such high costs on Australians when they want to bring their families home. It is very unAustralian. It is a disgrace.

You can ask them. I did and got a reply.

Senator Cash's personal reply was very interesting as to the costing and increases.

Not correct but interesting!

Had reply's from Prime Minister and office ( or what it is called) also.

The cost is one issue, the difference in process and the time another. The second can kill relationships more than the first does.

The time it takes for some cases if not most cases is unjustifiably high. This seems to be a good case for the Productivity Commission to investigate.

Oh I tried that also - but no response due "partner visas" are not "capped".

Just they do not meet the planning levels - that never get exceeded.

Abbott couldn't get his BS budget passed so 1/1/2015 increased visa fees by 50% then again 1/7/2015 by 50% with the reason of budget repair being the reason.

The offshore used to be half the price of the onshore which is fair enough they are different products but then they made them the same trying to sell that as making it "fair"

The government was not able to 'cap' the number of partner visas to reduce the number of applicants so they kept increasing the cost and slowing down the processing.

As I mention everytime this topic comes up, and that is quite regularly, there is absolutely no incentive for politicans to change the status quo, due to the fact that there are not enough votes in it.
While to us the cost of a visa, and the processing time are of the utmost importance, the average voter is ambivalent at best and quite possibly hostile towards immigration.
They would be quite happy if the cost of a visa was $100,000, if it meant that they as taxpayers , paid less for another service.
It is a sad fact of life, but I have seen it only too often, in my workplace and amongst people in the general community.

How can that be fair? Onshore applicants right away receive work rights and medicare benefits. Offshore applicants do not and therefore cost lot less. Politicians talk illogical crap.

Yes. It is very sad.

Partner visa is not general immigration. It is the one and only method available to fellow Australians to bring their families home. That should be given the utmost priority. Otherwise, it is a disgrace to this great nation.

All sponsors of partner visa applicants could make their federal members aware of this burning problem. Also it is worthwhile talking to friends and colleagues about this problem and make them aware of the impact on some Australian families.

Should make all Australians aware of the extent of undue pressure and stress caused by the rogue partner-visa assessment process manufactured by the current political environment.
