processing time for 820/801 after visa application 'in progress'?

hello,

this may be a daft question, I was wondering how long *very roughly* to expect an application for 820/801 marriage visa to take after the department has notified that they have begun processing it. sponsor (me) criminal check was done but may need to be done again because it was over a year ago we submitted. still need to submit applicant's criminal check and medical check but might do it now because i am thinking that the application could be processed in less than a year from now.

I am wondering if anyone can offer personal experience about this.

Thank you.

The process is very random, not even a rough estimate can be given.

But certainly it will not be granted without the police and medical results of the applicant having been submitted.

They may or may not request the sponsor to redo after the 12 months expires.

I submitted my sponsor AFP police check of 20-Aug-2018 on 24-Aug-2018 and a new one was requested 4-Sep-2019. So they are definitely reviewing these

I finally completed the PMV 300 application 25-Sep-2019 after a lengthy process to obtain a police clearance for a non-travelling 16yo son.

But her Thai police clearance was issued 8-Sep-2018 so I expect they will request another before they grant the visa - but hope not!

I would not do the medical and police check for your applicant until requested.
The medical can have a number of tests requested - chest X-Ray, HIV etc.. It is not just a medical.
I was incredibly unlucky as I did one in Thailand in July for my partner for her visitor visa.
When we arrived in Australia in August they demanded another medical - I guess for the PMV 300
At least I have been informed they don't normally request another medical

I definitely would not assume anything about the timelines for the department at the moment.
Just be patient - what other option do you have?
