482 visa to permanent residency

Hi everyone,

My partner and I are on a 482 visa and are exploring our possibilities to stay longer and becoe permanent resident.
We are unsure if any of our employer will be able to sponsor us so we are exploring other possibilities.
I imagine one of the best option would be a Subclass 189 (as both our occupation are on the strategic skill list). Does anyone know i fyou pay only when you are invited to apply of before?
WOuld anyone recommend another path?

Thank you for your help!

You pay when you make the visa application. Not sure what you mean by the “short skill list” - to apply for a 189 your occupation needs to be on the Medium and Long Term Strategic Skills List.
