ATO issue with 18-19 lodgement

Hey guys,

A bit of a different question here to mix things up.
I lodged my tax return late July but found the ATO's website was amending my lodgement automatically.

Basically my WHV 417 ended on the 1st July 2018 (was a Sunday) so the working year began on the 2nd- for me this was the first day of my bridging visa (had my temp residency accepted November 2018).

So they had me in their system as still on a WHV when I lodged my return which caused my initial judgement and all of my amendments to be changed automatically in their system. What it was changing- I put that the amount of money earned on the WHV to be $0 (which is correct), their system amended that to be the whole of my income from that year on a WHV meaning I was apparently taxed incorrectly and am owing money.

I have been calling and calling them since November when I lodged an objection and can't seem to get any help at all.

My concern- I am due to begin my application for the permanent residency visa 801 (partner visa) in March. Will this affect the outcome of that if it is not resolved by then?

I am so frustrated as they have not been able to help me and apparently my case has been passed from pillar to post within their office since November 19.

Is someone able to tell me if this kind of thing has happened before? Please, shed some light on this situation 🙏

Thanks so much!
Amy xx

From what I understand, it could potentially have an impact or maybe a delay if they are not able to see the clerical error/ it is not fixed up.

Debts to the Australian Government will form part of the application/assessment, as in, there must not be any outstanding debts or there needs to be an arrangement in place.

When you changed visas did you submit a new tax declaration form with your change of status for tax purposes? If not that would of been where the issue has come from
