Spouse Visa 2nd Stage - bad timing

Hi everyone,
I hope you guys can help me,
I'm from germany and the proud holder of an spouse visa 309 , it was approved on the 5th of Febuary 2008 (the application date was about 2 weeks earlier). So I should be contacted by the department around that time, unfortunately this falls together with the birth of my first child and thanks to WA policy I have to give birth 6h away from home, where i will stay for about a month around febuary next year .
So it really wont be a good time to organise the required paperwork !
Now my Questions:
Could i ask the department to deal with this a couple of months earlier? Any success stories?
And how long would i have time to provide the required information/ paperwork, in case that i wont be home for a while after i recieve the letter ! ?
Any experiences ?
Thanks Sonny

I would think that immi do give you some amount of time to get the paperwork in... do you know what kind of paperwork it is that you need for second stage?

aha! ok just went and had a look and apparently it depends on what you provided in your original application...one thing i have noticed however is that character checks and health checks are still there (bummer!!!) but whether or not everybody has to do them...dunno.

I also saw that they attempt to process these visas in 6 to 8 months--well, if it takes them that long to process it, i dont see why you couldnt ask for a bit more time. More than likely, they will send you a letter and give you at least a month to get the papers together, if not longer--especially if they ask for character checks, they couldnt possibly assume it would take less than a month to get them.

Why do you have to have your child away from home? do you mean as in travel to a hospital rather than have it at home? sorry, i hope thats not nosy.

What i would do is call up the immi information hotline and talk to someone about how the process works--they might give you a while anyways so you might not need an extension per say. If they indicate to you that it is a small window of time, then i am sure that you could get contacts to someone in the department and explain your circumstance and see what you can work out--maybe they will still send you the letter at the same time, but give you extra time to get it in to them. They let you apply from anywhere in the world, so im sure they could make some allowance for a new mother =)

Plus--you are having your original sponsors baby, if that doesnt prove that indeed you are still in a loving and caring relationship, i dont know what does =)

Here is the link to the FAQ i found about second stage processing incase you hadn't seen it:http://www.immi.gov.au/migrants/_pdf/faqs-2ndstage.pdf

Let us know what immi tells you over the phone!

Maybe someone else on here has gone to second stage, I haven't yet, but i hope i was of some help =)

oops! i just re-read your post and saw that you wanted to deal with it EARLIER rather than later...oops sorry.

don't know about earlier, but still, call immi, and if there is stuff that everybody has to do for sure (character checks maybe) you could always get that done before hand....

... thank you very much.. no i hadn't seen the FAQs!
I will give the hotline a ring, but had some bad expirences with them ( gave some incorrect information about my ability to lodge the spouse visa ... 1st one... whlie staying here in australia... ).
I'm surprised about that long processing time, but you mite be right haveing my sponsors baby mite help a little ... lol
We live in rural WA and there for i'll have to leave here and head to the next bigger city for the last pregnancy month because there are no doctors or midwifes here... ( and if this baby takes it time or we have to stay there longer I mite be there for quite a few weeks!)
Thank you very much I'll contact them and let you know how i went !

Awesome sonny, good luck to you with the phone call!

Was thinking about it though, and I reckon its probably no big deal to shift the timing, especially if its for the birth of your and your sponsors child (if you really, really had to, you could provide a letter from your OB/GYN or doctor saying that, indeed, your pregnant and are expecting in feb). You'll just be on your temporary PR for a bit longer is all. I got some dodge advice from the hotline too, but i think if you just make it very clear that this NEEDS to be noted in your file (just incase they do require documents quickley), they should be able to direct you to someone who knows what they are talking about.

How exciting having your first baby! Do you know if its a boy or a girl? I can't wait to start the motherhood journey! Congrats to you and your baby's daddy =)
