Evidence your Sponsor is an Australian Citizen

Hi all,

I thought I knew the answer to this question, but after browsing through some old posts now I'm not so sure.

I received an RFI last year, which included the following (generic) request:

Evidence your sponsor is an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen
Please provide evidence that your sponsor is an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen. For example, copy of birth certificate, Australian passport, Australian citizenship certificate, or foreign passport containing evidence of proof of residency or, for New Zealand citizens, evidence of New Zealand citizenship and evidence of length of residence in Australia, such as copies of passport pages.

People born in Australia on or after 20 August 1986 are automatically Australian citizens if at least one parent is an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident at the time of the personís birth in Australia. Please supply a copy of the following:
Certificate of Australian Citizenship of the Australian parent's mother or father Permanent visa, permanent entry permit, or absorbed person visa of the Australian citizen parentís mother or father valid at the time of the Australian citizen parent's birth

In our case the sponsor was born in Australia, as were both of their parents. For this part of the evidence request we included his Birth Certificate (states he was born in 1991 in Western Australia, his father was born in Western Australia, and his mother was born in Western Australia), and his Australian Passport.

I was under the impression this would serve as evidence the sponsor is an Australian Citizen. However, re-reading the part above that is underlined, do I also need to include evidence that the sponsor's parents are Australian Citizens?

Thank you in advance for any help...

Yes, we submitted our application and fee for our 309/100 in August of 2019, and then received this request (and a request for Medicals) one week later while we were still collecting some of the evidence.

We promptly attached the sponsor's Australian Birth Certificate and Australian Passport, which I initially thought was sufficient to prove Australian Citizenship.

Is that not the case?

The Australian Passport would be sufficient on its own to prove Citizenship. That's all I gave as the sponsor.

Thank you! I was almost certain was this case, but came across a weird comment in an old post and started getting worried.

I guess you start overthinking when you are twiddling your thumbs without any contact for 10+ months...

You are probably right. 'Visa stress' is a good term.

We had no contact for 12 months after submitting our decision-ready application and then it was to say that our application is being processed! It is stressful and your mind does start overthinking and casting doubt.
