Options while waiting for a visa offshore

Hi there. My partner and I recently applied for our de facto visa offshore (due to Covid and not being able to return to Australia together) The processing time has been pushed out 16 to 22 months. I am an Australian on a working holiday in Ireland which expires in November 2020. After this date we are in a difficult circumstance of not really having anywhere to go together to work/live. Does anyone know any option we could explore for compassionate return or suggestions of what we could do to return to Australia? I am afraid there will be no option but I wanted to reach out in case anyone is in a similar situation. Thanks. Liz

Are you able to apply for an extension to your current WHV?

I'm not sure there is grounds for compassionate return/processing of the visa, but I will leave that for other more informed members of the forum to discuss.

If you want to wait with your partner in Ireland and cannot work longer than the two years on the Working Holiday Programme in Ireland, perhaps applying for a visitor visa to extend your stay might help? You wouldn't be working obviously, but it would keep you together while your visa is processing.

The compassionate grounds for getting a travel exemption do seem to vary a lot. Maybe it depends on the mood of the decision maker on the day.

I would suggest applying, with your full reason, and see what happens.
Might be good to mention being happy to take Covid tests before entry and before leaving quarantine, to show your understanding of the reasons.
