801 Sponsor Police Clearance

Hi everyone,

I was just reading on an immigration agentís website that since 2019 sponsors of 801 applicants are required to submit and police clearance.

Can anyone verify that this is true?

If it is true, should I apply for my police clearance now or wait until itís requested by the department?

Thank you for any help,

Sarah.

We only provided a police check for the applicant, I don't remember seeing anything about getting one for the sponsor on the official checklist. We got the 801 so I assume it's fine!

We just did the 820 and I (the sponsor) had to do a police check, did you also have to do one for the 820 and are asking if another one is required for the 801 or did you not do one for the 820?

We just received our 100 and only I (the applicant) had to do an AFP check.

For the 309 portion my wife did both an AFP and RCMP checl.

Thank you for you reply I also saw a migration agent’s video about the 820/801 visas and he said it was required for sponsors too so we applied for a AFP check for both of us, just to be safe.

Sorry, just seen this - this year! I lodged my application in May and got the grant in July, so it's all very recent. A police check for your sponsor won't hurt, but it's an unnecessary expense.
