Applying for PR while waiting for a 461 visa to be processed...

Hey everyone!

I’m a Canadian living in Australia on a 461 visa with my partner from NZ. My visa has just expired, but my second application is already in processing so I’m on a bridging visa (I applied about 9 months ago).

I am currently pregnant and we are lucky enough to be expecting twin girls in December! Obviously obtaining PR is a priority to us, but due to a poorly timed gap year we spent in Canada, we weren’t eligible until this tax year.

We would like to put in an application for PR for my partner (189 skilled independent NZ stream visa) with myself as an added family member, but are concerned about potential complications.

- Would this count as me applying for two visas at the same time, and if so would my new 461 cancel the PR if it is the second of the two to be approved?

- Would we experience issues if our babies are born before the PR is processed?

I’ve scoured the immigration website and can’t seem to find any answers and wondering if this is the right thing to do, or if we should wait until next year...hoping someone can help! 🙂

Thanks,

Carly & Mike

In almost all cases, the last visa granted replaces an existing visa.

It might pay you to consult one of the registered migration agents who posts on this forum for an assessment.
