Requesting NSW Birth Certificate from Overseas

Hello Everyone,

My father was born in NSW in 1960 to American parents. He left Australia at the age of four for the United States and has never returned. I am helping him in his quest to get certified copies of his birth certificate. Unfortunately the online request process requires that he has certain Australian documents to prove his identity. He does not have any Australian documents other than his original birth certificate. I emailed our nearest consulate (Los Angeles), who referred us back to the NSW website. I emailed the NSW office listed on the website, but have not received a reply in two weeks.

Does anyone have any advice or recommendations? Can we just submit the online request and use US versions of the requested Australian documents?

Thank you,

Jason S.
