Trying to get back to my family

Hi guys, I'm new here. My wife and kids are Australian but we live in the US. However, we arrived in Sydney for a family event in March and decided to wait out the pandemic. I had to return to NY for work and have been trying to get back since early last month when I applied for a subclass 600 visa (I'm Dutch myself). Unfortunately waiting time seems to be nearly 6 months. I was wondering if there is any way to expedite this process? My wife is very worried to return to the US but our separation is causing a lot of stress for all of us. Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you and all the best,
Leon

There is no way to expedite the process unless the processing time significantly exceeds the published processing time, or there is an emargency in which case an approach to a federal MP might help, but probably would not.

Hi,
There was a case when a person waited for her 600 visa to be approved, nothing happened for a few months, then she tried to obtain an exemption, and the next day she got her visa and exemption. Maybe you should try it as well. Good luck

Agreed ... if you havenít applied yet for a travel exemption you should do so. Make sure it is properly evidenced.

Thanks guys, I have my visa now. The exemption request while pending seems to have put the wheels in motion. Now I need to know what airlines fly from what locations around the world since the tickets from the us are unaffordable.

Just curious what or they charging for tickets from the US?

Be very careful of coming from a third country, many have been stuck for a long time. Many have had dozens of flights cancelled at last minute. It seems most have had to pay business class tickets to get here.

I most likely has to do with the cap on numbers of international arrivals Australia has.

Good luck.

Airlines are repeatedly cancelling 'cattle class' ticket holders, often with no refund available.

My wife has to travel to Australia for urgent matters - 12k USD for return ticket with Qatar airlines (one of the more reliable arrivals in Perth it seems).
