Tourist visa (600) processing time in Washington D.C.

I am an Australian resident with an Indian passport. I am married for more than 3 years now and went on to live in US as I had a decent job there (although I had Australian PR at that time). Finally we decided to take a long term view and permanently move to Australia. I moved to Australia, got a good job and sponsored my wife's partner visa few weeks back.

Now the waiting time for partner visa is 5-8 months in Washington. We wanted to be together while waiting for the decision and my wife filed for a tourist visa (Visa 600) and truthfully mentioned that she had applied for offshore partner visa and would like a tourist visa to enable her to spend some time with me while she awaits the decision on here partner visa.

It has been 10 days since the documents reached the embassy and even the credit card has not been charged yet. I had expected the tourist visa to come quickly in a week or so. Is this normal? Does anyone has any experience if filing tourist visa in USA (non-ETA eligible national)? Any help will be appreciated.

If you lodged a paper based tourist visa application it can take up to 4 weeks for processing. I wouldn't stress just yet.

Thanks for the response. I was slightly worried because even the credit card has not been charged as yet. For my PR application, the credit card was charged in a week. Maybe they have different procedures for different types of visas.
