Okay can I tell my CO that I want to suspend processing for the reason that I need time to fully understand this relationship or this is not good enough evidence to back up my request?

I don't think you can ask the CO to "suspend" your application, either they process it or you withdraw your application. Make up your mind.

exactly! but you must contact them anyway- you are legally obliged to inform of your change of circumstances.

I meant delay the grant of visa as Whitney suggested here. I don't want to go and have to leave the country if things don't go well. I just need time to mend things first and understand this relationship more before visa is granted.

I highly doubt that they would allow you to suspend it as they would want to know why and why you don't want to be with your partner and it could raise concerns for them.

There is also another topic here where someone from Pakistan has been waiting 18 months, so looks like still a while off for the visa to be approved.

But ... if you do separate you are required to inform immigration.

skitz - I think it's great that you want to be sure of your relationship before you migrate to Australia. I think most people who are separated from their partners and going through a long waiting period and uncertainty of their application have the occasional freak out. We all come up with nightmare 'what if' scenarios. There is a point at which you will have to take that leap of faith, scary as it may be. I hope you are talking to your partner about your concerns so you can be assured about what Australian life is like.
