visa question

Im from Dominican Republic, i sent an email to the immigration department, they told me that i have to apply to 457 visa, a visa with a sponsorship. But how do i get someone to sponsor me if i dont have any visa??? and i cant start any process without that!!!!

I was hoping to apply to the visa subclass 175 (the one that you dont need a job offer) but they told me that i have to apply to the 457, and the first step is to get a sponsor!!! how do i get to companies to look my resume and talk to them if i cant get my visa>??

if someone had similar problem, pleaselet me know how u work it out

An application for 175 for occupations that are not on Critical Skills List might take years to process (150,000 applicants already in queue and you do not get any priority). I suppose they told you to look for a sponsor to get a better chance of being processed in this lifetime!!! Maybe they know what your occupation is and so they advised you accordingly, maybe the demand for your occupation is so high that they know you can get a sponsor. Give us some more info and we will share some thoughts.

thanx xdorota,

Im a civil engineer... and according to them this career is in the critical list, and in the SOL and would granted me 60 points.
i do have a lot of experience, none of them abroad, 7 yrs in as a site engineer with commercial building.
But i have applied to some jobs and those who are kind enough to write me back told me that i need the work permit. And the government told me that i need an offer to get one. i don't know what to do. i even have applied to entry level position, and with the same result.

^ Have you looked in to Government sponsored jobs?

I have noticed while applying that there is an option on the application form online that asks whether or not you are looking for a Visa sponsor... im not sure if this is just for the department i was applying for (Education) or what not.. but some organisations are willing to sponsor still...

Sorry i can't be more help! good luck!

There are the two routes, either independent or as Employer Sponsored.

As an engineer on CSL, you'll still be looking at a good year for processing all up and the very first thing you would need to do is get your qualifications assessed as OK by IEA.
That's an entirely separate step to an immigration application and can take about three months.
Have a look at the SOL link on Professionals and other Skilled Migrants - Workers - Visas & Immigration and you'll find the IEA info at rear of the SOL listings.

Clicking on Visa options will take you to 175/176 info and it is well laid out to read all the info including links in each section - no short cuts, just like sticking a building up that you want to stay up.

Doing the Employer Sponsored Route means you'll need to find an employer who wants to sponsor and is eligible.
Still pay you to get IEA assessment.
Have a read of sections/links @ Employer Sponsored Workers - Workers - Visas & Immigration
