Success Rate for Skilled Visa? More Job opportunities?

I received my invitation to apply for a skilled 189 visa I have two questions, and hope I am placing this in the correct thread...

(1) Does anyone know what percentage of applicants are successful in obtaining the visa? I am thrilled that I received an invitation to apply, but am having trouble letting go of the $3500 AUD application fee!

(2) Would this in-between status help in terms of opening up job opportunities? Or even getting replies from letters of inquiry?

Thanks so much for any advice, help, comments, etc.

Hi Nicole,

While I'm not sure about the percentage of people getting grants (I've been trying to research that myself for some time now and couldn't seem to find anything), I have read that once you receive an invitation the chances of a grant are pretty good as long as you can back up your claims (like education claims, IELTS, etc.)
And in reply to your second question, the thing with most australian jobs now is that they only want people who have a working permit in Australia. And that working permit is only available for people who are either already PRs or are currently applying onshore while on another visa. I've also received an invite to apply for visa 190, but no employers replied to my application (and they did clearly state that they needed someone who had an australian working permit).

It's unfortunate, really Good luck for your application!

Thank you, Ashleigh, for the info. I know, it's a horrible catch-22: you can't get a job without a permit, but it would really be nice to know you have pretty good chances of being employed before heading overseas! I guess I just need to be a bit more aggressive in marketing myself to hospitals! Good luck to you, too!
