I am interested in traveling to Australia from Canada in September. I am just wondering if anyone has done this with the help of the SWAP program in Canada. I would love to hear some stories or insight about this, as it is most likely the visa and help service I will be using.

I'm not familiar with the SWAP program Ben but it could suit some younger people to help guide them along the way and if it has like younger people doing the same thing, that can be an advantage.

That said, there are many young people who do use the Working Holiday Visa and backpack around independently, there being many hostel and cheap travel options available.
Working Holiday Visa (Subclass 417) gives all the detail re application and it is an easy enough online application.
You can set up an Australian bank account even before leaving Canada - ANZ - Travel and foreign exchange - Foreign Currency Rates & Currency Converter , ANZ being one of our major banks and others the Commonwealth, National and Westpac possibly have similar facilities for overseas opening.

You'll find a heap of travelling info in the travel section and really a decision of whether you go with SWAP or do it independently.
