Child visa, taking foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Hi guys I've lodged a Child visa more than 2 years ago and I am yet to receive anything from the department of immigration .. I am on bridging visa at the moment and the biggest problem I have is getting work rights. I was 17 when I lodged the application and I am 20 now and being a full time uni student I find it hard and stressing not being able to work and just being dependant on my stepdad. I called the immigration centre asking how my application is going and they tell me to wait and they will contact me shortly but they never have. How come my application is taking forever to be approved?? I've been in Australia for 14 years now and havent visited any other country since, its my home now and those immigration people arent giving me my permanent residency

I'm at a bit of a loss here tomatoflash, not that I can claim any real knowledge about inner workings of Immi and also especially since we've never had a child visa application query on the forum before.

But the first thing that enters my mind is what sort of a visa have your parents had in the first place that have allowed you to be here for fourteen years?; like tell us a little more of your background and we may be able to suggest something.

Hi Tomatoflash,
Can I first confirm that your application was a Child visa subclass 802?

I find it very unusual that you have had no response from DIAC since the lodgment of your application 2 years ago. In the majority of applications, a case officer is assigned within the 1st few months. A bridging visa is granted automatically when a subsequent 'valid' application is submitted, while holding a substantive visa. Are you certain that you have been granted a bridging visa A, have you received any confirmation of this from DIAC? (I just want you to be sure you have current lawful visa staus due this delay of communication by DIAC).

Since you have only given minimal information in your post, I can only respond with general advice. I will assume that you have made sure that your contact details (phone, address, e-mail) have remained current with DIAC for the duration of processing. I would advise submitting a written request to DIAC stating the date of application submission, concerns of the processing delay, your hardship with regards to work rights, any previous correspondance with DIAC, and a request for current status on your application.

From my previous experience, a written submission usually provokes action within the Department. I can try and assist further if you would like to provide more details on your case.

I hope this is helpful.
