partner migration question

Hello

Me and my french partner are looking to migrate her in april 2010ish. we will have been living together for 1yr in march 2010.

few questions:
1) is there a time limit on entering australia once you are granted the perm residence visa. she is studying 3years nursing in france(from feb 2010-feb2013) atm, but we would like it ready asap.

2)the european centre for aus immigration is berlin, are we able to lodge in person in berlin? is this easier(from an application point of view) than mailing (from paris)? is this normal?

3)i hope to move back to australia to get some work again, while my partner continues her study, in august. will this effect things? what if they ask for a joint interview?

thanks heaps

Hi dm and welcome to the forum.

First of all there is usually a lastest entry date put on visas and that will be for 12 months from when your partner had a medical and/or police checks for the medical at least has a 12 months validity period.

So what people do in that situation is take a Validation trip to Australia, ie. travel before the latest entry date and perhaps something that could be done if you are planning to return in August and your partner comes out for a holiday between study years.

The visa first issued will be a temporary visa and then two years after granting, there'll be a check on if all is well and the relationship still intact, then a PR will be issued.
Depending on how long you plan to be staying in Australia and your partner in France, I'm not at all aware of how DIAC may view that and I'll see if I can get an indication.

Berlin is a fair way from Paris but if you wanted to go you could.
Most people would I suspect mail their applications in and I'd think what happens is that interviews will be arranged in the various European Capitals, maybe even regions.

As far as you returning in August, there's a good chance with a complete, clear and correct application without superfluous information but just enough, you could find that an interview may be arranged well before August.
If not, there is no requirement that you have to be there still.

Best Wishes.
