Bank account question

When showing the proof of being able to support yourself while applying for a tourist visa, does it matter which country your bank account is in ?
My fiancÚ is finishing her job in Dubai, and rather than send the money through the banks, is considering leaving it in Abu Dhabi until fiancÚ visa is processed.

You won't be able to open an Australian account until you're in Australia, so a foreign account is fine!

ANZ does allow you to open a transaction account before arriving to Australia. To complete the application process, one will need to arrive in Australia, and identify yourself at a branch.

You could put all the money you want into the account before going to Australia though, the catch is you won't be able to withdraw it until ANZ knows who you are with the 100-point ID test.

So, it's most certainly possible.

You could even open a joint account with someone who's not yet in Australia. This could be handy for those looking at joint-account as evidence for joint finances.

If you are in Australia, you can apply a joint account with someone never been to Australia over the counter or by post. In fact, if you are an existing ANZ bank, you can log on to your ANZ online banking and open a joint account there somewhere.

If neither of you are in Australia, go to this website Moving to Australia to apply online.

PS. I am not affiliated to ANZ whatsoever. I do bank with them though.
