need help to start preparing for de facto visa

Hi guys
glad to find such a useful and friendly place here.
I have been in Oz for about 9 months since May last year (holding 573 visa). My visa will expire in June, In order to finish my degree and stay with my partner , i need to apply for new visa again around May. i would like to know i should apply for an extension of student visa or i could apply for de-facto visa in May? could u guys give me some advice pls,

our background:
My partner (same sex) and i have known each other for more than 3 years. we traveled couple of times together each year before i moved to here. and then i applied for student visa and moved to live with him here after we decided to live together. I am not sure we have enough 'evidence', we have some photos we took when we traveled together, and we also have a joint account which was opened when i arrived. i also have several letters sent to the place where we live. the house belongs to him. so here is my another quesiton. what should we prepare for the visa now before we apply in May? do u think we need an agent to do this for us?

thanks , i will appreciate all the help.

cheer

Hi myOz and welcome to the forum,

You may have read one of the sticky threads - http://www.australiaforum.com/visas-...visa-tips.html , elkitten having a fairly complex student/travel situation but she collated all her info together and finally got her visa as have a couple of others, Loved Up , you'll see as a respondent on that thread by elkitten and another, an eford and so if you click on the names and have a look at their threads too on what they did, you'll get an idea of the sort of information to be collected.
They were not same sex couples but the same deal applies re evidence of a relationship and Booklet #1 referenced in the partner visas pages on Immi [ or in another sticky thread ] has references to all the detail required.

There have been a number of other people who have come to the forum and also have got their visas or are in the process of doing so and all of them are doing it themselves for you can appreciate that the people rather than the agents have to collate all the info and an agent really just makes sure [or should] that sufficient information is presented and the application and sponsorship forms are complete and correct.

It is really up to you whether you feel confident in doing an application yourself or whether you feel the need for an agent.
