WHV - financial requirements

Hi there

I have a query about WHV and the financial requirement ($5000 plus bus fare home). Basically, do I need to have the money when I apply for the visa?

Reason i ask is because while the immi site is very vague about proving you have the money, (apart from a statement in the application that you have the money), i've read in various places that it isn't actually verified until you reach immigration. Is this right?

My situation is that while i don't currently have the cash, I have to give three months' notice at work, over which time i will be able to amass the money - I don't realy want to hand my notice in until the visa is confirmed.

I'm applying for the WHV in order to join my girlfriend in Australia, with an eye to applying for a defacto or employer-sponsored visa at a later date, i'd really like to apply sooner rather than later - and being able to apply now could be the difference between 3 months and 6 months apart. if i apply now without the $5k, is there a chance immi could ask for evidence now and deny me the visa?

Any ideas?

thanks

P

WHV visas are mostly applied for online and I've not looked at an online application to see what if anything has to be shown but comment is that the online applications can be approved even in a matter of hours, a week at outside for most cases.

As to Immi checking people on arrival, there's always a chance but I've never heard of WHV people being checked and unless they had some other reason to check you, [ dogs sniffing out drugs for instance! ] you'll likely get not much more than a "welcome to Australia" from immigration and just make sure you declare anything you should for customs [ even if in doubt].
I would always even declare leather items [ my shoes/boots!].
And on that note, if you're going to be wearing [ or have in luggage] those trekking type boots with chunky soles, make sure they're nice and clean.

At the end of the day, even a credit card with a suitable balance is acceptable for showing funds.
