I have been following the forum for spouse/partner visa applications regarding timelines. I was optimistic at first because it seemed that people in my situation were getting their visas in hand in about 2 months. But it is now going on 6 weeks and I have a new CO (never heard a word from the 1st one) and they have not given me any directives regarding the medical or criminal record checks yet. If I follow others input I should almost have my visa now. I am from a low risk country, been married for 15 years and have 3 children with my spouse. Seriously, how can it be made simpler for them. I am getting very frustrated with the whole process - they have my life in their hands. What should I do next?

I understand totally how you feel your life is up in the air and in the hands of someone because after waiting for 10 months we finally have our visa. If you feel you are not getting the answers you require I suggest you either call and ask to speak to someone about your application or email the Global Feedback Unit and explain your concerns to them. They usually get in contact with your case officer or forward it to someone who can investigate for you. Goodluck

Thank you for your input - I will definitely follow this link. It also helps to know there are others who have been there.

Hey Peazy,

My partner and I were in a similar situation, that it took over 2 months to get any feedback from our CO regarding a request for the medical - have you spoke directly with your new CO? (always phone and speak to them directly, we never got anywhere with our emails). We phoned 2 months in when we were starting to get desperate about our lack of contact - our CO fed us some line about it being subject to a two month waiting period before she could review it, but then she went ahead and looked at it that day and sent out the medical request by lunch time.

Admittedly we got the medical done the same week as the request and it took the CO nearly another 6 weeks before we got the visa (our medical results weren't sent on by the doctor for nearly 2 weeks because they sent out medicals in batches - it may be worth enquiring when you have your medical done how long they take to send the results on and if you can pay extra to get them couriered sooner to save time).

Also have you applied for you police checks yet so you have them ready when they're requested? Our AFP check was problematic, we sent our original request in Oct 09 - called to ask what was happening at the end of Nov 09 to be told they never received it (it went express post via a family member in Sydney who got the bank cheque), we sent a second request at the beginning of Dec 09 and had it first week of Jan 10.

Did your CO give you any timeline indication of processing time in their initial email? We got told 12-16 weeks and ours took exactly 16 weeks to the day, we made ourselves miserable for two months because ours didn't take the two months everyone else's seemed to - I stressed myself out to the point where my hair started falling out. In all honesty, you sound like you have nothing to worry about and hopefully your new CO is a little more helpful and speedy than your first one.
