does student visa cancel other applications?

HI everyone

I am just wondering if when you get a student visa, if it cancels other applications you may have for sponsored skilled migration 176.

If you are waiting for this, does it cancel this application or does that remain current - I read somewhere that you can have as many applications as you want, but you can only be in Australia on one visa. (Which makes sense).

Can anyone help me with this information?
Thanks.

Hi There

You will not put a 176 application in jepordy if you get a WHV. If you are in Aus on a WHV and your 176 then gets processed once it is granted it will supercede the WHV. If your 176 application was lodged while you were 'off shore' it can only be granted with you 'off shore' so you would be required to exit Australia for about 5 days for grant and visa issue. you can go to any country that has an AHC for this.

Hope that helps.

Same situation applies with the student visa, ie., as you have read, you can be using one visa while another is processed.
If/when the other visa becomes due for granting and as in a 176 application where Immi has been notified the applicant is in Australia, they will be advised of needing to exit to allow the grant and then that visa, the 176 would supercede the student visa.

The short answer is that any visa grant automaticially cancels any other visa held, regardles of what the visa hels is or what the new visa granted is.

student visa new streamline procedure has been implemented recently knight review changes 2012. Please guide me as question is on same lines. My PR case of 176 ss in under process since last year march , also CO is allocated in April 2012 and case is still under process for security check. Recently I have got admission in Master of Research (HDR) and intend to apply for 574 student post graduate research visa class on International postgraduate Research scholarship. If I apply for visa while my case for PR visa offshore is under process, what effects will have on my PR application visa process. Can these both applications can be processed together. Please guide as I am worried and have to apply for student visa, as I dont know how long it will take in decision regarding my 176 ss visa. So for I am very much interested in academic research.
Regards

Hi Nur

Two things. If you apply for a student visa it WILL NOT AFFECT your pr application in any way.

The second thing is, you already have a bridging visa, maybe you dont need another student visa. I suggest you talk to the university and discuss with them. Look at te conditions of your bridging visa and let me know what they are.

Thanks for that information Nur. The part about a new student visa application will not affect your PR application is correct. You can have as many visa applications lodged at the same time, but can only hold one visa at any one time.

So go ahead with your plans, your 176 will not be affected. If it is granted , the same, it will not affect your 176 application being processed.

Best regards
Chris

Hi Chris,
Thanks for guidance on the issue. Is it good to inform my case officer through email before submitting my student visa application or not.
