Police Checks

I have just found out from reading the boards here that I need a federal police check, I just have a qld one... I have looked into this and just need someone to confirm that I send my application by mail to AFP, Criminal Records, Locked Bag 8550, Canberra ACT 2601? With copy of passport and payment

Also, as I am from Ireland, do I also need to apply there to get an Irish clearance cert for the police there?

Thanks!

Yep.visa applicants have to provide police checks from any countries they have lived in for more than a year in past ten years or from age of 16, whichever is the minimum.
The AFP address is correct and Character Requirement - Applications & Forms has a latest info link as well as a link to overseas country addresses/email sites etc.

correct. Although here in AU they say it takes 15 working days for processing, it took me 2 months of waiting plus another 3 phonacalls and 2 emails to get it...no criminal history, mind you..

There are always going to be variances in how long the Immi processes and those outside of Immi take, it not being a conveyor line running at a set speed and there being key issues of workloads and staffing levels always to be taken into account.
You'll never find web sites updated for such fluctuations as that along with fielding enquiries just sucks up additional resources.
