Second time posting, long time lurker.

FWIW we applied onshore in Brisbane for 820 in December 2012. We are AU Citizen (me) and US Citizen (husband). We were married June 2013. Front loaded (except FBI checks, they take FOREVER). Currently waiting to be given a case officer. On the plus side, at least immigration are taking our calls now and answering questions.

Well apparently we do have a case officer, but I don't know who they are. When I ring the immigration number, they are friendly but not very helpful in that regard. The only piece of news we have is that "everything looks like it is progressing positively" and we should call back on Monday the 3rd of February.

The problem is we are still waiting on the FBI checks (sent multiple times, I think 4 or 5 times at last count) since February. Apparently they were sent last week, but they could be here any day or next month.

This is seriously starting to stress me out :( Sorry I just had to vent and the waiting room seemed like the place to do it!

I'm so sorry MrsGemH!

It just boggles my mind how they pick and choose which applications to pick up. There just doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. I wish they would go in the order that the applications arrive so that everyone could have at least a little peace of mind!

I hope the FBI check comes in soon. That whole process is maddening and so needlessly stressful. They really need to sort out their systems. (Mine was even sent to the wrong address the first time around, which is just crazy to me. I mean, come on!) I actually wrote a complaint about the whole thing and sent it to them. It just shouldn't take so many applications and so long to get that to anyone--especially when it just says "this person has committed no crimes!"

Fingers crossed you get your decision soon. Is your husband having to redo his medicals? Maybe once you turn in the FBI check they'll realize they need to make a decision on your application and you won't have to wait much longer. :/ If you still don't get any information on February 3, I'd suggest e-mailing. My e-mails with the department were more informative and ended up revealing who my case officer was, and even knowing their name might reassure you to some extent that it's actually being looked at.

Anyway. So sorry it's been a long and stressful haul for you. :( Hopefully it will all be over soon!

Hi MrsGem
Wow I can't believe the problems with the FBI checks! We are preparing to lodge 820 online in Brisbane and we havnt gotten his FBI checks yet. Where is Brisbane did you go to have the fingerprints done, and what is the problem - can they not read them?
I can't believe they make you do all this antiquated stuff - I wish they could just scan your fingerprints and check some database lol

Did you get US state police checks also? I believe we need to do that too.

My fiance is having his medical tomorrow and we get married in 2 weeks. So excited! We will be joining this waiting room soon!

I think the state police checks are dependent on how long the person has been away from the U.S., if I remember correctly. I didn't need to get them done (I had been out of the U.S. for a year and a half at the time more information was requested). So, it's possible you don't need them!

Ah OK. No my fiance was living in the states up until September.

Hi Inkhearted - we actually chatted through your blog as well.
We are glad that you have managed to get your visa in 9 months. We don't hold grudges against those that just happen to be luckier than us.
We are all in the process together and it is difficult for all of us for many different reasons. I just hope the FBI comes through this time.

Kangaroogirl - we didn't need state checks as he has been out of the US for a long time (around 10 years) with the exception of 2 months right before he came here. We did need Scotland Yard, and they came through in about 6 weeks.
The biggest problem appears to be: Loosing paperwork, never receiving it, blurred fingerprints or a combination of those. Or "We have you in the system, just wait".

The fingerprints were done at Elizabeth St Police Station in Brisbane. There is a rumour that the FBI is going to start accepting LiveScan (the computerised version we use) but I don't know if this is in place yet.

One piece of important information I have to impart:
When we submitted our application the written advice we had was to complete health checks prior to submission. Once we submitted our letter in response said to wait for a CO before doing health checks because of the 13 month wait. I was concerned and this is what I got back from Immi:

----------------------------------------------------------------
Sensitive
Good Afternoon

Thank you for the email.

Your medicals expire *date removed*. However case officers have discretion to extend medicals by six months.

1. You can provide a form 1022

regards

M
Partner (Temporary) Processing Centre QLD
Department of Immigration and Border Protection
------------------------------------------------------------------

This may help if anyone is overly concerned about medicals expiring. This also MAY NOT apply to your case. Only Immi can advise officially. EMAIL THEM and ask - it may help.
