Hi everyone,
I'm still waiting for my visa to come through. I applied in April 2013 and I only heard from them two months ago. I received an email from the DIAC which made me excited to see that they finally contacted me, but my feelings changed quickly because the wrote that they transferred my visa to Perth!!! The reason for the transfer was that the Sydney office where I lodged my application was too busy!
So fingers crossed that the Perth office is processing my visa application soon

Thanks for the info. Fingers crossed. At least we know that they are spreading the work around to relieve the pressure on busy Sydney. That's a plus I guess.

So I'm joining the waiting room

We applied onshore online through Brisbane office on March 1st 2014.

Prepared for a very long wait, but I don't care. I'm just so thrilled and thankful that I've been able to have my husband stay in the country on a bridging visa.

He hasn't started looking for work yet and I know that's going to be very hard to find, but we are just grateful of the process allowing him to stay.

Yay! Happy Friday everyone

Hi Everyone,
I migrated to Australia on Prospective marriage 300 - June 2013, which that process took 11 months while in overseas, after arriving in Australia we married and lodged the application on July 2013 which i have received an email back from immigration with Partner temporary visa 820 and bridging visa acknowledgment letter with a case officer assigned on august 2013. now the question is how long the total duration for permanent visa is, it says 9 to 12 months for your partner visa does it means only 9 to 12 months for 820 and then another 12 months for permanent visa 801 to take effect?
so after waiting this long do i get any type of letter that my 820 is effective and my 801 is under process for further another year or what?
i tried calling provided immi number but it is hard to get hold of case managers and the machine says for your visa status check VEVO online which i checked it nothing so far updated.
Thanks

That is strange usually 820 they comes from a pmv gets approved pretty fast. Yours is taking a long time. Did you check your junk or spam folder? They should email you the grant.

The permanent resident is 2 years after you apply for the 820.

Just joining the waiting room ! I applied for 820 visa onshore on Feb 9th 2013.

Got my bridging visa the same day but I am also on a 457 which doesn't expire til July 2015 so fingers crossed I won't need to use the briding visa.

I am from the UK and I've been here for 2.5 years. Applying with my partner for a defacto visa.

I also submitted mine "decision ready" with all medicals and police checks done.

I was hoping to get a case officer soon, but from looking at other's posts, it seems unlikely I'll even have one this time in 2015!

Overall I don't have many worries - It doesn't seem like it matters too much if they grant the 820 today or if they grant it in 18 months because it is still 2 years from Feb 2014 until I can get the 801 - 'proper PR'.

So I will just patiently wait as others are too!

good luck everyone!

Thumbs up

Welcome. Thanks for the information. You make a very good point that the long waiting period is less of an issue when you take the 2 years for an '801 proper PR' visa into account. It seems that some are being granted more quickly these days. Which office did you lodge at?
