It would be 16 months this week.
We applied on the 24th December 2014. Onshore and paper application that was handed into the office here in Sydney. Medicals were completed within the next 7 days and police check was provided in the first week of Jan.
For anybody wondering, we didn't need to re-do the medical and I was informed that the only reason they sometimes ask people to do it again is if they've visited a high risk country in the period since their last medical. Police checks were fine as well.
It's been a stressful wait and there is a lot of relief now. The biggest mistake that we made was not doing the application online. The reason for that was I had read a lot of comments about difficulty uploading a large number of evidence so I thought it would be best if we just handed everything in on a paper application.
A colleague of mine who did his application online received his approval after 11 months. The reason for this is that if you do an online application then they can share with other offices across the country whereas paper based applications obviously need to stay in the location that they've been handed to. Looking back on it now it seems pretty obvious but I don't think I anticipated that timeframe being quite this long as at the time on the website it said 9-12 months and secondly we had to move quickly to get the application in before the fees went up in Jan 2015.
I also contacted them via e-mail last week to double check the situation with bridging visa as my current 457 runs out in May and asked if a case officer had been assigned. They responded very quickly about the query and also said no case officer had been assigned yet but would be soon. Therefore it only took 2 business days to review and approve.
Anyway, at last it's done and now we just need to wait for December and go for the 801. Hopefully that process won't be as painful!
Congratulations and happy belated birthday!

I gave Immi a call yesterday to check the current status of my visa application.

The lady told me that there hadn't been a CO assigned but she can see someone actioned on my file two weeks ago.

Does anyone have any ideas what it means? If there hasn't been a CO then who would look at my file?

Btw my application was lodged on 09 Feb 2015. 3 more weeks than I will reach my 15th month of waiting.

Hey guys,

I forgot to mention that I am on a bridging visa B until the end of May, which is my second bridging visa. I applied for it to leave for 10 days in March and they granted me the visa for 3 months which is a bit random apparently. I don't think they'll assess it until then since I could leave the country anytime until then?

Out of curiosity, when did you apply for your visa?

Most people between Dec14 and May15 are still being processed. So we might possibly still have to wait a few more months before being assesed (I applied on 15th July 2015). It seems that those that received the generic e-mail (that we have already received) and then the e-mail that mentions to hand in all documents by the 30th of April (which I personally have not received, not sure about you) might be the ones that will get their visas soon. We will be soon after hopefully. *fingers crossed*

Hi guys, first time posting but wanted to say thank you to everyone who posts here. I wouldn't have been able to do my 820 application without this forum.
Me and partner submitted his visa on Thursday 21st into the Perth office.
We have received an email today which has four attachments,
1- receipt of payment
2- acknowledgment letter
3- bridging bisa grant
4- medical health examination list with a HAP ID

My questions are:
- the email and all the attachments mention a name and their title is processing officer. Does this mean we have been assigned a case officer?
- does the inclusion of the health list examination and HAP ID mean they are requesting we send our medical now? We didn't front load our application and stated on our cover letter we would do the medical when advised by our CO so I'm just wondering if we should organise it now or wait some more?
Thanks in advance any help would be appreciated

The Answer to both Questions is no. The processing officer is the person to checks it's a valid application etc, this wont be your Case Officer.

The HAP ID is just information for you, I wouldn't do the checks just yet, perhaps wait about 6 months. I got exactly the same information in the email when I applied and my 820 still took 13 months.

Good luck, happy waiting!
