Hello All,

Newbie on here. Been reading and lurking for years so I thought to contribute.

Applied 820/801 for my wife December 2014. Migration agent and have only just been asked in April for medical and Form80.

We have a son born overseas but I apllied and had approval for citizenship by decent back early 2014.

Like all others, the suspense is painful but at least we are onshore together as a family.

Hi Saigonant,

You applied 820/801 partner visa in December 2014, have you got visa granted? It's been more than 18 months so far.... Did you have a immigration agent? Why not ask them to check the progress with immigration department for more details... Which city did you apply? Online or paper application? Thanks for reply

Hello,

We applied in Melbourne with an Agent who I have known for a while, he also assisted us with our first sponsored Tourist Visa application, for my wife 3 years ago.

I have also a personal and family friend who is a practicing migration agent and really it is pointless asking for updates. This is because he has told me to 'take with a pinch of salt' the time frames indicated. He knows of people waiting well into 3 years; not because of any 'background checks, high risk country, or age and cultural differences but by the backlog in the system.

Generally if there are issues with the application they are 'flagged' very early on and if so, rejected. *(This is only my understanding based on formal advice)*.

We have only a BVA but have had a BVB issued in the time as we returned to my wife's hometown last November.

We have a child, 2.5 years, overwhelming evidence that is too much to mention, so we will have to wait.

When do book medical?

Hi all. My partner and I applied for 820/801 in March 2015.

We heard nothing until the auto email earlier this year saying we need to get any previously requested docs submitted by April, for a potential June assessment.

As we had not been requested of anything yet we queried via email and phone. Phone wasn't much help. We received an email reply (eventually) saying sorry for the delay in responding, a preliminary check over your application shows we still needed x, y and z documents. We got these docs sorted the next few days and submitted them, still before the April cut off.

I've noticed recently that our application shows as 'In Progress' finally, and when I click on 'View medical assessment' it takes me to the following:
"This person is required to complete health examinations for this visa application. Click on the link below to organise these health examinations. Once this person's health examinations results have been assessed by the department this page will be updated to reflect this. Note: If this person does not complete the required health examinations the visa application can be refused."

We had been waiting for an actual request to get the medical done, based on advice read on this forum. Should we consider this the request? They didn't ask in the email and we had been waiting before arranging it. But we are into the 15th month awaiting the 820...so if we do arrange it now surely it won't have time to expire and need another one done in 12 months?

Possibly. You should make an enquiry and ask, also request a HAP ID.

I would definitely consider that as the official request. According to the other members on this forum, you can get the HAP ID through your immi account (I don't know this personally as I go through an immigration lawyer).

The instructions are as follows (copied from a post on page 268 of this thread):
"Open your immi account, click view health assessment on the left side under your name, then click organise health examinations."

That should generate a HAP ID for you and also would probably alert the department that you are in the process of getting it done.

Cool

Hi Sep2011!

We applied for 820/801 Visa on 05AUG15.

We were told it takes 12-18 months to assess.

The 12 month mark is fast approaching (05AUG2016)!!

We have only received one email 2 months ago advising us that the application has progressed in the que.

Looking at some of your replies, it appears some people have been waiting for almost 3 years!!!!!???? I hope that isn't the case!

Hi LOCKIEB

I have moved your post to this thread as the one you posted in is for people who already have an 820 visa.

I will give you a brief rundown. You only get the 801 upfront if you meet the requirements 3 years married or de facto (or 2 years with a child of the relationship). If you don't meet those requirements you are eligible for 801 (PR) 2 years after you applied for the 820, so in your case would be August 2017. Currently they are quoting 12 to 15 months for the 801 grant as well due to backlog, though some do get it faster than that. However, alot can change before you are eligible for PR - the processing times could get better or worse.
