Ok ya'll. I am scheduling my medicals for myself and my sons. On the Referral Letter, it says Client visa details: BS 801 Spouse (Permanent). However, I applied for the 820 visa at this stage. So, when making the medical appointment, what do I choose for the visa subclass: 801 or 820? The letter says 801 but my visa application is 820.

Very confusing. I don't want to put the wrong thing and mess it up. Can someone help?

Thanks!

Hi,
I came to understand about immigration here in Australia and their system to grant the visa. I myslef had been married over 3 years before i submitted my application last April 2016. I came here as tourist on February 9, 2016 and submitted my 820/801 partner visa on April 7,2016. I submitted every single thing except AFP check here by paper in Sydney office. And i submitted AFP check just March28,2017. Here is my story; i applied 820 as well; Immigration sent me 820 grant! And not knowing after 4 seconds i have another email for 801 grant! My point is, every single application should start on stages: which means on your application it should be focussed on 820 even if we are aware that we are referred or told and even to the fact that it is on the website that married couples/ or in de facto relationship for over 3 year or if couples have kids can go straight to 801, WE STILL SHOULD FILL up everything with 820 and the immigration officer decides if they are satisfied to give you 820 or straight 801. Anyway when they give us the grant, they still send first the 820 and for just few seconds 801 is also granted. I hope it helps. Thanks and i wish you best of luck for you and your family! :-) Cheers!

I am from USA and came here on an ETA Visa, after the first 3 months, we went to Bali to satisfy the leaving the country every 3 months thing. As I was re-entering, the Immigration person told me I am obviously here to be with my partner and I should apply for a tourist visa because each 3 months I leave it will be harder and harder to get back in if at all. I said well thats the only visa I was allowed to get at the time. So I applied for the Visitor Visa and shot for 12 months, because they will give you however long they think you should be allowed to be here anyways, so I went for the big guns. I figured I'd only get 6 months, since I had just finished my 5th month here anyways. They granted me the full year ( I am guessing cause my partner can financially support me and im from low risk country)

This was long enough for me to satisfy the 12 months living together, and I was actually honest in my application for visitor that I planned on applying for the partner visa before that one was up but I wanted to not be seperate from my partner and he can care for me and he has a house and everything here, so it makes more sense for us to be in Australia. They granted it next morning, no questions asked. So I applied for the partner visa after a total of 12 months being here. :) Lots say dont say that you are living in Australia on a visitor visa but I was honest with them, because even if they had told me no, we'd of just went to the USA until.

That's great that they approved your visitor visa with you being honest. I was on an ETA business visa, just waiting for the invite to apply for my 189. I needed 2 weeks to get the invite, so my MARA agent advised me to apply for the 600 electronic visa. I was completely honest. I requested just a month, stating that I needed a couple weeks and intended to apply for the 189 visa. They denied the request, due to not being a true visitor. So, we applied for the 820 visa instead. We would have just gone to the US, but with my partner needing a major surgery, we need to be here.

I always say be honest. Unfortunately for me, it bit me in the bum. I had focused all of my plans/energy on the 189 skilled visa. My partner and I had discussed the 820 visa, but I wanted to do it on my own and the 189 visa is a lot faster. Still, I'm thankful that we were able to apply for the 820 instead. It hasn't been an easy thing, as we had to meet Schedule 3 requirements...but, our application is showing Sponsor approved now...so I'm taking that as a good sign that all is going well with it. :D We have our medicals scheduled for Wednesday. Once that's done, it's sit and wait.

I think because the end result of applying for 820 is that you eventually get 801, this is correct. I feel like I asked the same question. You don't redo the medical for 801

Good point, Arabella. That is what I listed for the medical, as that is what my Hap ID paperwork says on it. So now, we're all scheduled for Wednesday.

What was the exam like? Is it a basic physical, or do they get really invasive/in depth? I've heard some folks say it was a simply physical, xray and blood test. I was worried because I had thyroid cancer back in 2011. But I had the surgery/treatment in 2011 and it's been almost 6 years now with no further issue/treatments, so I'm considered "cured." I was able to check the No box for the cancer question, as it's been over 5 years since I had it. I'm still a little nervous about it...but I don't think it will be an issue.

It's pretty straight forward. They will probably ask about your medical history. I don't know if the cancer will make a difference but if you're considered cured I'd think you'd be ok.

Hi! I recently did an AFP check as well. You can submit your application online, or post a downloadable application. The process is carefully explained on the afp website, just google "national police checks Australian federal police" and the link comes up :)

I did the online application (the link is found under the "Application Portal" heading) and it was quite a straightforward process, and I got my AFP check in no time!

Hope this helps

AFP National Police Checks: https://www.afp.gov.au/what-we-do/se...-police-checks
Go half way down the page to: "Application portal"
You should use Code 33 at Question 1 on the form and include details of any, and all, names you have been known by.

We got the 820 very soon after supplying Form 80 and Police Check.

Thanks for that, again. I'm not really too worried about having had cancer as it was almost 6 years ago and I'm "cured." I've done some research and others who had the same type that I did, but hadn't been as far out from treatment still had no issues with the medical. My doctor here told me it shouldn't be a problem and gave me my last blood work results to take with me. I asked her if I'd need a letter and she said no, I shouldn't. At this point, I just want to get it over and done with so I don't have to worry about it! LOL
