Wondering what DIBP mean when they say they need to do security checks? Noticed some are being told that of late.

They send it off to ASIO so they can check if you've done anything shifty in your country, to put it simply. Cos if you have, Australia won't take you.

That's fair enough! Thought maybe it was to contact people who did stat decs - to check on people's honesty.

Actually come to think of it - do they ever check the stat decs? I'm happy with mine but interesting to know.

We didn't do our form 888s. They didn't ask for them either.
It's extra evidence, I reckon. In case the original evidence doesn't meet the mark.

my security checks is taking so long my eligibility date for 801 visa is 25 JAN 2014 and when my agent contacted IMMI they told him we are still doing background check

Seems strange to be doing background checks in Australia or are the checks done in country of origin? If so i guess it would take longer to do checks in high risk countries?

background check in my country LEBANON, i guess high risk country.
