Hi I was wondering.... my partner and I are in the process of completing 820/801. I'm Australian, he's American. We've been together 9 months, we have all the evidence and have registered the partnership. We're getting married but my dad is recovering and all our attention has been on him. We don't have kids, we're both semi retired, I'm 50 he's 55. (not that immigration is bothered with this). The question I am having trouble with is the "compelling & compassionate" reason he should stay in the country. Is being in love enough??

What part of the 820 is the "compelling & compassionate" question.

Being in a genuine relationship should be sufficient.

I don't recall that bit.

It came up on page 18 headed Relationship - There's 5 questions about the nature, financial, social, development and commitment of the relationship. When I enter The date the relationship started I get this message The relationship length entered does not meet the minimum 12 month requirements for this visa. Give details of the compelling and compassionate circumstances to be considered with this application

even in 2014 my wife ( now ex-wife! ) . had to wait well over a year before we heard anything and in a way they treat people with contempt as naturally couples worry . I think that safe to say that not hearing anything means the application will be successful assuming police and medical checks are OK . I think it now takes longer than it did in 2014 ! Good luck

surely the 12 months applies in case of a de facto relationship only and can be married
less time than that , even a few months if other tests are satisfied . Sometimes they ask the impossible as a few of the other tests are almost impossible to satisfy if a
couple are from different countries , eg credit checks etc . Good luck

I heard nothing for 15 months at all. They then contacted me to ask for my police checks. I've been waiting 23 months now, still no grant.

Hello,

I applied for 820/801 onshore - 31 Dec 2018.

28 Nov 2019, we were asked to do overseas police check and the separated sponsor online application- on that time we submitted the application it was only one for applicant!!

We uploaded all documents 29 Nov 2019, haven't received any things yet.

Just wondering is it the same for others?

Thanks.

I've noticed a few people haven't done the sponsor application immediately after the applicants application.

I am wondering if anything has changed since we did ours. It seemed to be a specific requirement back then.

All the information they asked for the online sponsor application, I mentioned in my application. So, it was only repeating the info in another application!
