Hi guys, I just read that if you have applied for the 802/820 visa then you become entitled to Medicare, I didn't know this.

Does anyone know how I apply for Medicare? (Iv never done anything like this at all so it's probably a really stupid question)

Thanks all

At my work we say that no question is a stupid question.

You just go to Medicare ... they are in the same office as Centrelink now. You take with you your acknowledgement, BVA grant (just be on the safe side, I can't be 100% sure if we needed this or not) and your passport. You fill out all the paperwork and they will print out your Medicare number on a piece of paper and your card will arrive within 28 days (my husband's only took a few days). It is valid for 1 year and they keep renewing it and you will get a green card when you get PR.

hi Dayvt,

can you please update me once you get any reply email from DIBP concerning your situation?

i'm getting very anxious too as i have passed my 14 months mark and nothing whatsoever from them.
i am scared my app is sitting on a desk somewhere and being ignored or misplaced

my partner is also getting anxious and he is planning to get our lawyer to give them a call next week or bug them for an explanation as to why there is nothing till now regarding our app.

i've read that some people do get an email around 8-9 months mark that they will be allocated a CO soon.or, the CO will ask them for some extra info if it is missing.

did you get that sort of automated email?
or, same as me? nothing at all ?

how i wish at least i got that email. then, i know someone did read my app and if there is something missing, they will let me know so i can fill in the blanks for them and move things along instead of no news at all....

this is so frustrating

and, if you get any good news next week, do update me too.
thanks, Dayvt

Is there actually grounds to complain? Or is it just the processing times that are the issue?

Processing times. They are over 15 months so once over 15 months it is valid to lodge a complaint.

Hi all,

Just wanted to let everyone know, I rang the helpline on New Year's Eve as we had just passed 15 months waiting - very unhelpful and couldn't give me any information regarding my application, just 'everything looks to be ok, just keep waiting'. They suggested I email the partner processing centre to request an update, which I did. I have just received a reply to say they are currently processing applications (in date order - yeah, right!) for September 20th, 2013 so mine should be allocated to a case officer later this month! We lodged our application on September 30th. Keep checking your emails everyone who applied around the same time - it shouldn't be long now!!

I received exactly the same email and I lodged on the same day as you, so I reckon about 2-4 weeks should see us good.
