820 Temporary Onshore - Waiting Room!

I was just wondering how many others here are also in the waiting phase after applying for the 820 onshore - where are you from, where did you apply, did you go for a subclass 300 first?

How has your experience been so far, and what are the things you worry about? How long have you been waiting?

Just a thread for people in 'the same boat' (although we're all very different) - mods if this isn't an appropriate thread (because the information can mostly be found through Timeline Search) please feel free to adjust, close or delete! I'm just curious who else out there is (still) waiting, since both applicants I knew have been granted before me!

Hi Nelly, my husband's friend applied at the end of August and got his 820 at the end of October, so it was just two months waiting for him. He lodged his application in Sydney. He got every document ready except Form 80, which I guess he later added. He did not go through 300 but he has been living in Australia for 3-4 years on other visas. And he's from China.

As for me, I'm from Malaysia and I applied for 820 in Sydney in early October. Mine is a decision-ready application as well. I did not go through 300. So far I have only received an email from the department acknowledging that my application is valid, together with the grant of Bridging Visa A, etc.

I'm not worried about anything, really. Soon after my BVA kicked in, I applied for a Tax File Number, and enrolled into Medicare. Currently I'm looking for a job. In terms of visa, there is nothing I can do now except waiting patiently for my 820 because you really don't know how long it will take. When things are beyond my control, I will just let it be.

Here's wishing all of us a smooth journey to 820/801. :-)

Hi!! I'm waiting, too. I'm originally from Michigan, USA, and we didn't do a 300 first--I was in Australia on a work and holiday visa for a few months before we decided to get married. My husband and I have been in a relationship for eight years, so we knew we were going to get married eventually. A work and holiday visa made the most sense when I applied, but a variety of factors ended up changing "the plan" to get married later, so we ended up eloping and applying for this visa.

I applied back in March, but without the police checks or medical completed. I've been having horrible difficulties getting an FBI police check done. Money just left my account for what I hope to be my last application. Hopefully it turns up soon so I can get it in! (My Australian police check came within a week.) When the FBI check shows up, I'll probably go ahead and get my medicals done. I know the results are only good for a year, but as it's been eight months for me now, I doubt it's going to take another full year to process my application--fingers crossed, anyway.

When I was filling out the application I was stressing about having enough evidence and I was really nervous about forgetting something or not including enough. However, months down the track, my only real concern has been about getting this police check in and doing the medical (there's nothing wrong with me that I know about, but I really don't like going to the doctor! Completely irrational, I know). Another worry was about my husband, who is my sponsor, not making enough money as he was in a part-time position when we applied, but he's working full-time now and in a higher wage bracket as well, so no more worries there. As for other evidence, I've gained more confidence in what we turned in and have decided not to let it stress me out so much.

It's so nice to hear from other people who are applying for the same visa as me! I hope everyone gets theirs granted soon.

SAME BOAT HERE!
I have applied on Dec 19th 2012 and so far the only email I received from immi is an automated one stating that my application is now being processed in WA even though I applied in Sydney....

Same boat here. Applied 29 August through the Melbourne. Used a reputable migration agent, submitted decision-ready. From the US, have been in Australia for 2 1/2 years, first on a Work and Holiday, then on a student visa. Have received one e-mail acknowledge receipt of application, but nothing since then. No case officer, no other information. Crazy to think that even after 3 months, I haven't been waiting very long at all relative to others!

hi, maybe a naive question here: isn't the person who issued your acknowledgement letter actually your case officer?

in my acknowledgement letter, the PDF file, at the very end, "Your sincerely...**.***, Position Number ******", isn't that my assigned case officer? or that's my misunderstanding!?

Thank you

Hi, I don't know for certain, but I just checked my acknowledgement letter and it doesn't have any signature at all. It just says "Sincerely, Administration Team." So it seems unlikely to me that the person who signed yours is your case officer; rather, I think it was probably someone in administration. It's my understanding that your case officer will contact you later if you have any missing information or if they decide to do an interview. Some people don't ever hear from their case officer, but are instead just granted their visa.

I don't believe so. I think it's just an intake/processing person, who receives it and makes sure it's complete. Applications then seem to sit in limbo until a case officer is finally allocated. It was similar with my 573 student visa: one person acknowledged receipt, another person did the actual assessment.

Same boat here too. I applied in August 2013 in Sydney, supplied police checks and medicals a few weeks later and not heard a peep since. I also did not go through 300 first. I am currently on a 457 and have been in Australia for nearly 3 years.

I am pretty desperate to get out of my job which I can't do until my visa comes through and it is frustrating but knowing there is nothing I can do means that I try (and fail most of the time) to put it to the back of my mind.

I also remind myself that there are so many people out there who are waiting offshore for their visas and that must be awful so I count my blessings that I get to be here with my partner every day.

Hi ya.
I am in the same boat, Nelly87.
I applied for 820/801 in February this year (2013) and was granted the BVA which kicked in in April when my visitor visa expired. I am originally from Malaysia and did not go for the subclass300 beforehand.
I got married to my Australian husband in 2012. I was here since Feb last year, but as i came on a visitor visa, i left OZ every 3 mths (based on my ETA) till the day we applied for the 820/801.
I called up immi and they mentioned that processing time is 15-18mths from application date. So i guessed i'd only be hearing from them mid 2014.

I have been looking for a pt job/casual job but no luck so far.
My only worry is whether i will find a suitable job soon...

I guess there's really nothing we can do (since it's not within our control) except to wait patiently for the 820/801 to be processed and approved.

I always believe everything happens for a reason. So probably all this waiting is to teach me to be more patient in life (as I am a very impatient person).....meanwhile i try to enjoy life everyday and slow down a bit in life.

I do hope we all get the approval soon and good luck to us all who's in the same boat.

Cheers!
