Proccessing Times

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on the processing times?

Here is my little story:

I studied in Adelaide for 5 years and got a software engineering degree from UniSA at the end of 2008. When I completed my degree I had to leave Australia for family reasons but the plan was to always apply for PR and come back in a year or so.

I got my assessment done and ACS gave me a computing professional without any specialization.

I applied for a GSM on 06/09. Now when I applied the web page said the processing usually takes about 15 months or so.

When I track my application online the last entry is on 09/09 and says application being processed further.

I just found out about the recent changes and I'm not on the critical list.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me how they would affect my application?

Shouldn't I have been assigned to a case officer by now?

I'm kinda confused at what kind of a time frame I'm looking at right now keeping in mind my circumstances and if there is anything I can do to improve it.

Can someone help me out please?

Thanks in advance

Computing professionals were CSL status if their classification was on MODL and if that was the case when you applied, even though MODL does not now exist a CSL status would remain, however if the ACS classification was not on MODL and you were therefore not on CSL, that would change things quite dramatically.

The changes being introduced throughout 2009 put a priority system into place and occupations not on the CSL may have processing times of an indefinite number of years.
Client Service Charter shows that there can be many factors affecting processing times and with changes being introduced because of the GFC and other reasons there are more factors that make any times indicated by Immi very broad.

There will be State Migration Plans hopefully announced within a few months and you could look to see whether your occupational classification will be included by a state.
You could also look at the state nomination lists as they are now to see where you are included if so and apply for a state sponsorship though being on a State Migration Plan will have the higher priority.

The other alternative would be to seek employer sponsorship as an interim means of immigration and one that can lead to PR.

Thank you for your reply.

As I said I graduated from University of South Australia. Therefore when I got my assessment it was: 2231-79(ICT Recent Graduate).

I am guessing that is the same as no classification?

Since I graduated there recently shouldn't that help my case at all?

And again shouldn't I have been assigned to a case officer by now? Do I get an email or anything like that when it happens?

The tracking web page just says "Application being processed further".

Am I supposed to submit my medicals or police check before I am contacted and asked for it? The web page says required but its been that way since I applied. And when I applied I was told to wait till I am contacted.

It also says character assessment outstanding and there is a link to complete it. I tried it several times but I get to a step where its asking me my purpose of stay(tourist, business, family etc), intended stay duration, date of arrival etc. I don't think that applies for GSM and I cannot skip this step. I skipped it by entering random information and I get to a step where I am asked to enter my previous visas etc. This has already been asked of me when I applied. So I am guessing there is something wrong and I am being redirected to the wrong page?

I'm not too sure on the ACS assessments for though you were classified as a recent graduate and that has the same ASCO code as an NEC - Computing Professionals not elsewhere classified 2231-79 - Australian Skills Recognition Information, it may create a problem re Immi acceptance if your assessment notice being used is five years old and actually says recent graduate.

I'd not be doing anything about the medical or character checks until requested.
The use of terminology of required/outstanding is just what Immi use to indicate on the file what the situation is and as you have stated, you have been told not to do anything until requested.
