Spouse visa info?

Hi I am german, living in Australia since 07, in a relationship with an Aussie since 08 and married to him since march 09.

After a lot of visa trouble and being on a bridging visa my solicitors decided to apply for a spouse visa now. Which they reckon will be succesfull without problems.

My questions are: what is good evidence? What should I provide them with? What checks do I have to undergo? How many and who should I give as references? What questions will be asked in interviews? Are they going to come to our house?

We don't have many things in joint names like an expensive car we just bought is in my name only cause of my husbands greedy exwife. Unfortunatly she can claim assests even established after divorce as they didn't settle financialy. So things like the car and other things come out of my pay and account and are in my name only. We also don't gave joint bank accounts cause of same reasons and I don't want her to take a portion of the money I earned or bought into the relationship.

My husband and I earn good money and share everything. He pays bills (including mine) out of his account and we live and save out of my account.

Some bills are in both our names and others are in seperate names cause of the above reasons.

Do u think that is ok that way or will they get on that? We are very much in love and had 2 very nice weddings (one here and one overseas for my family) also we were invited to family birthdays and weddings together and went pm holidays together. Also he has children I look after sometimes. Is that good proof?

Hi Shiregirl,

Have you read the Partner Booklet about what kind of evidence can be shown? Immigratoin knows that not every one has perfect evidence ie everything in joint names. The important thing is to explain some background as to why things are seperate. Here is the link to the partner booklet:

I recommend looking at elkittens sticky at the top of the visas and immigration forum. She got a de facto visa with very little 'neat' evidence, so her sticky explains what she did to satisfy the criteria. Even though you are married, her advice could be useful in your case.

If you need any more help, let us know
